What makes a shoe worth loving

Your shoe questions, answered

What should I look for in a comfortable everyday shoe?

Look for three things: contoured arch support that matches the shape of your foot, cushioning underfoot so hard floors and sidewalks don't wear you down, and a fit that holds your heel without squeezing your toes. A removable footbed is a bonus if you wear your own orthotic. Get those right and almost any style, from a flat to a boot, can be comfortable all day.

Are wedge boots good for all-day wear?

Yes, when they're built well. A concealed wedge like the Damascus adds height on a stable, wrapped base rather than a narrow heel, so you get the lift without the wobble or the ball-of-foot ache a stiletto gives you. Look for a contoured footbed and a sole that flexes where your foot does.
